Q. How do I know whether I will have enough media? A. Our micro kit is designed for a container with an area of 15 sq in and the mini kit will accomodate a 25 sq in planting surface. So if you have a container that is 3" X 5" , our micro kit is made to order as the 3" times 5" is equal to the recommended 15 sq in. You will need a depth of at least 1/2" to provide the roots some material to grow into. B. Our pellet kits feature .5" pellets that quickly hydrate. You would start with 10 pellets in a small bowl. Add water until the media is fluffy and not soaked .... mix with a fork to fluff. You will need to fill your container with at least 1/2" of the media, so add your mix to container and see if it provides enough soil to grow. If you need more, add pellets into your bowl and rehydrate enough to provide your germination surface.
Q. What is the best way to harvest our full crop? A. You can snip and eat your microgreens at anytime. Use a sharp small scissors or kitchen shears to snip the microgreens just above the soil. We suggest though that you wait until the entire crop is ready, anywhere from 7-14 days depending on the crop. You can simply remove the whole crop by gently pulling the "mat" of roots and soil out like a blanket. The roots should create a full bottom on the container. Remove the crop in it's entirety and place on a plate. At that point you can harvest your crop by "mowing" your crop by clipping the microgreens just above the soil.

Q. What does normal growth of microgreens look like? A. Here is a screen shot from a video by one of our seed suppliers that shows how a normal progression from seed to harvest looks like. Note the the plant growth accelerates greatly once the leaves get sun and start to grow. Again, harvest just before the first true leaves emerge for best taste and highest nutritional content.
