Below is a picture taken yesterday of the results of a 5 day grow of radish mix using coir and our "secret sauce" of natural nutrients ... the results are amazing when compared to simply growing the microgreens in balanced water. Plants are stronger and more vibrant, growth is faster and more robust, and in general the radish microgreens are physically at least twice the size at 5 days than a harvest at 7 days from our first crop.
Day 7 ... right on schedule our first radish harvest. The colors are flavors of this microgreen are off the charts. We had some on a fresh salad of lettuce and tomatoes from our container garden, the vibrant taste and colors transformed it into something special ...
Our first harvest of radish sprouts yielded over 2 full plastic containers. Photo on left shows the tray just before the harvest and is indicative of the colors and sturdiness of the plants and in such a short period of time. The photo on the right represents one container of two with the clipped microgreens and highlights the colorful stems in addition to the deep greens of the leaves. I believe if we let this grow out to the 10 day level we might have gotten to the secondary leaves. The plants were already way above the tray sides.
We planted another tray right after this with the same batch of radish seeds in our coir with fresh worm castings to see if there will be any differences in the crops. Target is another 7 days to chart the differences ....
Day 5 - 2 days in the light so far and amazingling strong stems and leaves. Plants are robust and colorful ... so far it appears I did not water evenly as some parts of the tray are not growing out after having good sprouting. More learning to be done. These radish microgreens look outstanding and tempting to eat already. Had the last of the broccoli with a salad for lunch, incredible additional taste was imparted to an otherwise standard salad.
If you haven't had a chance to taste some microgreens, give yourself and your body a treat .... try some today, or better yet, order a kit and grow your own ....
